La Iglesia contemporánea precisa un despertar espiritual en la vida de los pastores; que amen a Dios más que a su éxito personal; que estudien a fondo la Palabra y traigan alimento nutritivo al pueblo; que vivan en oración y sean ejemplo de piedad para el rebaño. Pastores que den la vida por las ovejas en lugar de explotar la grey; que no se doblen al pragmatismo ni vendan su conciencia por dinero o éxito. Pastores fieles y no pastores populares; hombres quebrantados y no hombres famosos. Pastores que entiendan su misión y valoren su trabajo como dijo C. H. Spurgeon «Hijos míos, si la reina de Inglaterra os invita para que seáis embajadores en cualquier país del mundo, no os rebajéis de puesto, dejando de ser embajadores del Rey de reyes y del Señor de señores». No es un libro crítico, sino todo lo contrario, el objetivo en “De pastor a pastor”, es compaginar el consejo de grandes hombres de Dios con sus experiencias, y concluir que antes de pastorear a los demás, el pastor debe pastorearse a sí mismo.
